AI, the buzzword of the era, dominates discussions across all sectors. From boardrooms to newsrooms, everyone’s talking about its potential to revolutionise how they use its capabilities and incorporate them into their day-to-day operations. However, as businesses harness AI’s power for growth, cybercriminals are also eyeing its potential for sophisticated attacks.
In Microsoft’s Misson Control report, they conducted a study by independent researchers from Goldsmiths, University of London, speaking to thousands of employees across a variety of private and public sector organisations including decision makers and senior cyber security professionals.

Latest Concerns with Cybersecurity:
The study found that the majority of decision-makers (52%) and senior security professionals (60%) fear that current geopolitical tensions will increase cyber risks to their organisation. Consequently, more than half (55%) see a lack of robust protection as a threat to the UK’s economic growth while two-thirds (69%) recognise that Britain will need stronger cybersecurity defences if it is to achieve its goal of international AI leadership.
What does this mean? Well, despite efforts, the threat from cybercriminals, armed with AI, looms larger than ever. In collaboration with Dr Chris Brauer at Goldsmiths, University of London, the report shows the challenges and opportunities ahead. It’s a wake-up call, urging businesses to improve their cyber defences.
Facing AI Head-on:
Facing AI Head-on:
AI, when wielded responsibly, can be our strongest shield against cyber threats. Yet only a quarter of UK organisations are leveraging AI for cyber security. Now’s a suitable time to adopt AI not just as a tool for defence but also as a strategic asset. The financial toll of cyberattacks is staggering, costing the UK economy £87 billion annually. Investing in AI-driven cybersecurity could potentially save £52 billion each year. Moreover, businesses incorporating AI in their security strategies may see reduced financial losses post-attack. The potential for the UK to lead the world in AI is immense. However, this future hinges on secure foundations.
By prioritising cybersecurity, businesses can not only safeguard themselves but also propel the nation towards a superpowered tomorrow. Dr Chris Brauer rightly stated, “To become an AI superpower, the UK must maintain its position as a cyber security superpower. ” At Edge IT, we maintain a strong stance in cyber security for our customers and empower UK businesses in the age of AI.
