No matter how much careful planning you do, sometimes things happen that are simply out of your control. Faced with that situation, you need support from companies that can be agile and able to adapt to the changing timeframes. That is what happened when Edge IT was contracted to work on a new project for a long-term customer.
Strategic planning saves the day for solicitors
The Situation
Edge IT had a longstanding relationship with Susan Hall & Co Solicitors in Hitchin. The law firm was looking to expand its business and needed to acquire a satellite office to accommodate its growing team.
Edge IT was asked to provide new computers and peripherals for the new starters, as well as wired and wireless network coverage throughout the new premises and redundant internet access and firewall security to meet the needs of the cyber security certification.
The project requirements were straightforward, but due to delays in completing paperwork for the new premises, coupled with the fact the new starters had already been given a start date, Edge IT faced a very small window to complete the work.
The Project
Edge IT liaised with third parties to arrange for the installation of the new data lines to the premises with Ethernet cabling throughout, as well as the procurement and configuration of computers and peripherals for the latest team members.
It also provided and configured a full office network, consisting of a next-generation firewall solution, managed network switching and wireless access points distributed throughout the building.
The Wi-Fi presented some challenges as the property was an older, listed building, with very thick walls and an irregular layout. This required more access points than would normally be used, and careful configuration to prevent interference in the areas where signals would overlap.
The third-party internet service provider was unable to deliver the broadband line that was intended to serve as the backup internet connection and temporary primary internet connection until the installation of the fibre connection could be completed. Consequently, Edge IT had to quickly pivot its plans to substitute it with a 4G cellular data solution which they were able to procure and install at short notice.
